Sensex, Nifty trades higher; Midcap index outperforms

Equity indices traded marginally higher in the afternoon trade after declining in the last five trading sessions. Also, high crude oil prices and mixed cues from the Asian markets prevented further gains in the indices.

At 1:53 PM, the BSE Sensex at 34,660 was up by 44 points, while NSE Nifty at 10,533 was higher by 17 points.

The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap were higher by 0.62% and 0.74%, respectively.

Tata Motors (+5.3%), Bajaj Finserv (+4.3%), Bajaj Auto (+3.4%), Coal India (+2.9%) and Bajaj Finance (+2.7%) were the top gainers.

UltraTech (-2.6%), IOC (-2.2%), HPCL (-1.8%), Infratel (-1.7%) and TCS (-1.5%) were the top losers.

Out of 2,048 stocks traded on the NSE, 980 advanced, 708 declined and 360 remained unchanged today.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories stock gained 2% after the company reported profit at Rs302cr for the quarter ended March 2018. Operating profit for the quarter stood at Rs578cr.

Shares of TTK Prestige touched 52-week low after announcing Q4 numbers. The company reported 32% fall in its Q4 net profit at Rs37cr against Rs55cr in the same quarter last fiscal.
